TransDance Festival The festival for dance and performance 'TransDance', is Egypt's international festival that gathers artists from several cities across the Arabic speaking region, the Euro-Mediterranean and Beyond, to Cairo and through Cairo, to present, create, and develop new works in dance and performance from transdisciplinary and transcultural standpoints. TransDance was established in 2008 by HaRaKa, and operates as a series of events that take place in alternative venues to create more intimate friction with artists and scholars dealing with body-based practices. Previous editions programmed artists such as; Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen, Hassan Khan, Igor Dobricic, Moataza Salah-Abdelsabour, and other renowned artists working in the field of contemporary visual and performing arts. The conference was held in 2007, and came together as a collaboration between HaRaKa, Goethe Institut Kairo, Deutches TanzArchiv (Koeln), and hosted talks by Ismail Fayed, Thomas Thorausch, Shahira Issa, Adham Hafez ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ HaRaKa Films and Talks Since the establishment of HaRaKa, the necessity for public encounters around dance and choreography has been articulated through several platforms that invite a diverse public to reflect on body-based practices. This operates both an audience-building strategy, fosters a sense of a community within the dance scene locally, and allows possible new partnerships to be developed. The Films and Talks programs included lectures by specialists that include Claudine Dussolier (France/ Public performance lecturer, and producer), Barbara Borcic (Slovenia/ Curator), Sawsan Gad (Egypt/ Demographer and Researcher), and others.
