ARAB DANCE CARAVAN
New project curated and produced by HaRaKa For the first time in a major European dance fair, and at the Dusseldorf Tanzmesse, a selection of Arab artists in a concise curated program is presented. The program 'Arab Dance Caravan' is produced and curated by HaRaKa. It aims at contextualizing and disseminating practices in dance and contemporary performance from Arabic speaking cities engaging with new trends and aesthetics. The Caravan sheds light on the context, content and international relations and possibilities of collaboration. It pays a special attention to younger artists, whose work crosses disciplines. The Caravan is conceived as a critical and practical composition, of performances, talks and encounters, as well as a booth representing several artists based in/ working through the Arabic Speaking Region. Artists represented by the Arab Dance Caravan are: Mona Gamil (Egypt), Amira Chebli (Tunis), Rima Najdi (Lebanon), Mey Sefan (Syria), Ahmed Salhi (Jordan), Leyya Mona Tawil (Palestine/ Syria/ USA), Adham Hafez Company (Egypt), Al Fajr Company (France/ Egypt). For the Open Studios, a series of excerpts are shown highlighting different artistic and political positions, and modes of engaging with what choreography is, and what performance is to a generation of artists engaging with political upheavals, uncertainty and a constant process of revisiting and deconstructing hegemonic discourses on aesthetics and contemporaneity within the field of dance and performance.
